Bike Central Bike Central 113 SW Naito Parkway Portland, OR 972xx 503-227-4439 Monday - Friday: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday: Noon - 4 p.m. |
To quote a fan "Bike Central is abosolutely the place to go for this. Why would you look elsewhere?" Their website is a place holder. You're better off just going to the shop. Be prepared for them to be closed if there's a major track event in Portland on that weekend. Head wrench Dean keeps a good supply of parts in stock. I picked up a few for my bike there.
They're located at Front and Ash on the street formerly known as Front. |

Stocks of used parts at the repair shop, lots of frames for sale, good advice. Two locations. My personal favorite place for bike stuff. They describe themselves as: The Repair shop specializes in custom repairs, and new and used parts, including old and hard to find parts. The Annex sells refurbished used bicycles, new and used trailers, trail-a-bikes, and new parts. |

Roger Joys says, "I don't shop for fixed stuff anywhere else." Why you ask? Roger hasn't said why, so we'll have to guess. Maybe it's because they're the launch pad for the Sunday fixed rides. Maybe it's because they support the community by doing a lot of work with the BTA and publishing Rubber to the Road, a guide to local good routes. Maybe Roger worships at their shrine to Eddie Merckx. Roger hasn't said why, but his actions speak out. |

Bikesmith The Bikesmith 2309 N 45th Seattle, WA 98103 206-632-3102 |
Val Kleitz does a lot of cool
things there, including this: The two speed fixed gear hub was developed at the Bikesmith, and is the result of almost a year of competetive collaboration between three of our mechanics. As anyone who has ridden a fixed gear bike knows, they work best on level terrain, as there are no alternative gears. As anyone who has seen Seattle knows, many of the roads here are on an incline. To resolve this conflict, we offer a specially modified coaster brake hub which gives two truly fixed gears that can be shifted on the fly, using the shift lever of your choice. The hub has an 18 tooth cog which is not interchangeable, and the higher of the two gears will be this cog in combination with whatever front chainring you deem appropriate. The low gear is about 30% lower. This gives just enough hill climbing ability to make the fixed gear bike truly practical in varied terrain. Kent says, "BTW I'm too much a purist to use the two speed hub, but I think it's neat nonetheless. Bikesmith will also do frame modifications, etc." |

In Redmond is a shop I recommend whole-heartedly. But then I'm a bit biased, since I work there! [ed. So you know you can get some great advice!] We are a full service shop and do a lot of work for the local randonneurs, track racers, fixed gear riders, triathaletes, racers, mountain bikers, commuters and recreational riders. | |
